Stop Masking Your Emotions

Are you tired of masking your emotions and keeping up the façade of a brave face while you struggle in silence?

We often mask our stress, emotions, discomfort and pain while we’re struggling inside. I know because I used to put on a brave face to hide my anxiety all the time.

It’s the same thing as saying “I’m fine,” when you’re really not fine – a habit most of us pick up in childhood.

The Problem with Masking Emotions

The issue with masking negative emotions is that when you do it, you actually become more constricted, more tight and more tense.

Each time that you “grin and bear it” and you have success at fooling everyone, you become better at it, and you become more comfortable with being emotionally dishonest.

(Learn more about emotional honesty and why it’s important on episode 3 of the True Body Intelligence Podcast.)

Tools for Expressing Emotions

You can use your breath as a tool to inform others that you’re under a stress load that is greater than you can manage. Or, you can use your breath to reduce the stress load that you’re under that has you stressed out.

Deep breathing is a powerful tool to connect your inner experience with your outer expression. Use it to become more aware of your body and share your true feelings.

By focusing on your breath, you bring awareness to your body and are able to communicate your emotional state more clearly. Embrace this simple yet effective practice to strengthen your connections and create a more authentic presence.

Take in a deep breath and just let that feeling, emotion, confusion, and anxiety go so that you can be more present. When you are present, you are happier, and more joyful, open, and clear.

Aim to always be honest about what you’re feeling, both with yourself and with others.
