The Art of Being
For a long time, I lived the way I was told to live. I stood in line. I gave 110% to things that were supposed to prove my worth to the world. I followed the scripts written by boarding schools and military commanders, believing that if I just did enough, I would finally be enough.
But the cost of that “doing” was high.
By following the world’s map instead of my own, I ended up with a body full of pain. My senses were failing, sleep was a memory, and I was emotionally distorted—carrying a heavy burden of stress with no courage to share the suffering.
Then, I decided to step out of line. I stopped following the world’s demands and started following the breadcrumbs laid out by my own soul.
From Doing to Being
We are taught that our value is a product of our productivity. We believe we are the sum of our resumes, our bank accounts, and our achievements. But I’ve learned a different truth: Your value is inherent. It will never come from what you do; it can only come from who you are.
When I shifted my focus from doing to being, my previous life of pain finally made sense. It was the friction of a soul trying to fit into a shape it wasn’t meant to take. Now, I wake up knowing I am doing exactly what I was born to do: helping others shed the pain they were born into.
The Heresy of Authenticity
By nature, I am a heretic. In my youth, that heresy was punished. I was forced to conform, to march, to fit in. But true power isn’t found in the line—it’s found in the courage to leave it.
To be a “pure, clear, direct, divine reflection of Source consciousness” is the highest calling we have. It’s a passive outlook, in a way. It means trusting the breadcrumbs. It means realizing that the state you are in matters infinitely more than the task you are completing.
The “Taking Out the Trash” Test
The thing you are doing has value, but it will never have more value than the way you are being while you do it.
Think about a mundane task, like taking out the trash. You get in the elevator with a neighbor. In that moment, the “doing” is simple: you’re carrying a bag of garbage. But the “being” is where the magic happens.
-
Are you being kind?
-
Are you being courteous?
-
Are you being generous?
-
Are you being emotionally present and open-hearted?
- Am I being authentic?
-
Are you communicating?
-
Am I empowered?
- Am I clear?
You can take out the trash and be a grumpy, stiff curmudgeon, or you can take out the trash and be a source of joy and connection. You can either lift your neighbor’s day or bring it down. The task remains the same, but the impact on the universe is worlds apart.
Perfecting The Art of Being
We spend so much energy asking, “What should I do today?” What if we started asking, “How am I being while I’m doing what I’m doing?”
When you prioritize your state of being—your kindness, your generosity, your clarity—you stop chasing value and start embodying it. You realize that you don’t need to prove your worth to the world. You just need to be the light that you already are.
